The future of ergonomics

(Blog feat. John Andrews)

Forward to a colleague

The Office Evolution

Last month we spoke of the new found freedom that technology has made available to us. Far from being 'chained' to a fixed place of work, there are now greater possibilities to move 'away from the desk' and in more comfortable, collaborative and engaging environments. The hot topic is sit-stand working, with Public Health England advising that we should be looking to stand for at least 2 hours per day and expand this towards 4 hours. Not an endorsement of providing a height adjustable desk (as good as they may be for many individuals) but an opportunity to be creative with our workspace by building in natural features.

Breakout into more flexible workspaces

It's a good idea to move about and collaborate with colleagues. Breakout areas which offer the time and space to do this, can offer your staff this variety, which allows for individuality, adaptability and the chance to stimulate and grow ideas.

For organisations that wish to investigate and encourage the creativity and diversity of their workforce, the 'Networking Landscapes' collection, offers alternative solutions to the traditional and system-focused workstation. Learn more >>

How DSE & Ergonomics still plays a vital role

Last year we invited John Andrews, Welsh designer and manufacturer: Ergonomic Cafe as a guest blogger (see: future of ergonomics), to discuss the impact frequent tablet and laptop use can have on our wellbeing. Users seem to identify the uncomfortable feeling associated with the lack of support for the hands or wrists whilst typing, or equally common, the fact that the screen is far too low.

John joined us at the annual Occupational Health Conference in Cardiff last month with a display of ergonomic office and portable innovations including laptop solutions, tablet stands and document holders. Thank you to all those who visited our stand - we really appreciated the opportunity to talk to you about our changing environments (and even home working habits!).The interest we received was immense, and the newly launched 'Shadow' notebook stand made its debut at the show and currently holds the title of being ‘the worlds thinnest laptop stand’!

The risks associated with using modern technology is greater than ever before. And so with it, comes the requirement for staff training too. Our comprehensive services can help you to undertake DSE Compliance & Training, conduct Specialist Assessments & Overviews, as well as offer Recommendations on Products, Best Practice and RSI Prevention. What's more, you can also benefit from Group Demonstrations.

We're here to help you keep your staff healthy, comfortable & happy at work!
